Crazy. At least the pig was okay. Does anyone know why they bothered doing this?

since i used to be in love with history and space and all that, i can give it a pretty solid guess.

i'd assume they were testing how g-force affects the body in preparation for sending men into space. so they were pretty much just seeing if the pig's body could hold up under acceleration at high velocity. cheaper to fire the pig out of this modified cannon than to build a whole rocket (i imagine that's what they did next). they also got the results back almost instantly. did the pig make it, or didn't he.




also, what's the complaint on getting the pig drunk? they probably did that in an attempt to be humane. getting drunk dulls the senses, they didn't expect the pig to make it without injury, if at all or something, so they were trying to make the experiment painless for the pig.


also, i'm totally going to use that as a picture everywhere now, thomas.

Corey makes all good points. I agree with his assessment.

Pig had two options:

1. Bacon
or
2. First Pig to reenter the atmosphere, then Bacon.

I think he went with the right choice.

So next time someone tells me "yeah, when pigs fly" I'll just show them this.
