SOAP BOX RACES!!! August 24th, 2005, 3:44 pm
Ok so for those of you who don't know.... we are planning to have a soapbox race some time in december. If you are interested here are the guidelines:
Dec 1st is the building deadline: no building/touchups/fixes/mods/etc. beyond this day, so TEST YOUR RACER EARLY!!
Plan to race on pavement, this might influence your choice of wheels.
An original and creative name must be clearly displayed on your racer, how it is displayed is up to you.
There will be three aspects to the competition that you will want to keep in mind while designing your racer:
Speed
Maneuverability
Style
Finally, here are the restrictions on the design of your racer:
1. No motors or propulsion of any kind that will have an affect on the wheels.
2. It must be "car-like" with three or four working wheels
3. The racer must be self-made. Parts can be purchased, scrounged, or scavenged
as long as most of the racer is hand-crafted.
4. No "D Bag" additions to your racer. Examples of "D Bag" additions: Fat knives on the wheels. Flame-throwers. Guns. Etc.
alright guys that's it. This is a reminded for those who already know about this, and also an update for those you don't. If you want it, you don't have to sign something or pay money or anything like that. Make a racer by Dec 1st, bring it on the day we decide to race. That's all there is to it.

This is going to be so tight! But are you sure we can't have flame throwers?
You said it's up to me how to display the name, mine's going to be in fire! lol
Can robosapien drive my racer?
That would be tight.
Ok so go build!! You too Patrick.

One thing I forgot to add about the racers!!!
you must incorporate a way for thomas to tow the racer back up the hill. a metal loop secured to the frame of your racer in the front or back will work.

Since I have put so much time into my cart I think that after the downhill race (if it survives) I'm going to make it a super long term project to turn it into an electric go-cart. I'll devise a high-voltage high-output setup. My final goal is to have a sequential transmission to pull it up to 60mph. Man that would be fast 1 inch off the ground. That's my challenge to myself.

yay challenges! Good luck with your endeavor go cart dealy, Tom. My newest challenge to myself is to learn the art of Paintballing! I got these twin brothers who each have $2000 guns... so maybe I won't get too into it, but they're gunna teach me. Oh even better is that maybe they'll teach me the dirt bike too! extreme sports are fun, yay!
