So one of these weekends you guys want to go camping in the Mojave? I figure we can do a saturday/sunday trip. Maybe on the saturday we can hike Amboy crater and surrounding lava fields (for Steve: Amboy is a 6,000 year old extinct cinder cone made mostly of layers of vesicular pahoehoe). Then that sunday we can do Kelso sand dunes in the morning and leave for home before it gets too hot. I think it'd be cool if we could leave Saturday at like 4am so we can be hiking Amboy before it gets too hot. It'll probably be in the 110's F in the afternoons so we should bring PLENTY of water. It's probably 2 or 3 hours from here and I'd be satisfied with just doing Amboy and Kelso and then leaving. That way it won't take even a full weekend. I think group camping in Mojave National Park in $25 per night but it doesn't matter what the group size is so the more the merrier. Thomas, could we/should we use your RV? If not or if we need it and another car, I can drive mine and thus 4 other people. We can bring camping gear or just sleep in the RV. Let me know what you guys think.
