hmmm interesting. it seems that they have provided you with a USB sound card of sorts. this is a really good thing because it will give you all the inputs and outputs that you will need to do what you want. you should be able to play music to the mixer already if you hook the output of the USB device to one of the inputs on the mixer. then just hook up the output from the mixer in to the input on the USB device like you were doing for recording and that's it!. wow they really made that easy. kinda makes me jealous. all you need to do now is get a amp to "kick out the jaaaams...yeah....kick out the jaaaams....they done kicked em' out!"

well you could use the gigrac in place of the other mixer if you want to simplify things. you could also use the amp in the second mixer to power things like you said if you want however i think it would be kinda annoying to maintain that many volume knobs. how many speakers are you looking to hook up? i just read the manual for the gigrac and it looks like a really nice mixer & amp. the only problem is it is 300w for both channels. that means that if you are going to connect more than 4 speakers to this thing (assuming 2 per channel) things are going to be loud but maybe not powerful enough as you might want. if you have the manual for the gigrac i would recommend reading it from front to back. i just did and it looks a lot better than the manual for your other mixer. it actually answers a lot of your questions in detail and with diagrams. again, i think that the gigrac would be able to handle everything you want to do if it doesn't involve too many speakers.

beautiful diagram bud! good on ya! cheers!

only thin with it is that the red/white in out plug ins are what i use on the usb to lappy device. so i think i figured i could plug in XLR cables to the main out part > to the input1 & 2 position of the gigrac. think it might work?

ummm not as you might think. the output from the xenyx would be in separate cables left channel in one and right in the other. when you plug them in to the inputs 1 & 2 on the gigrac they would be treated as two different sources splitting each channel in to two separate channels. for example the left channel would now be going to both left and right and the right channel would be doing the same thing. what would happen is you would eventually create mono, the left and right channels would be broadcasting over each other. if thats no biggie then go for it however i would advise against it because RCA cables are cheap and it would allow you to have two dedicated channels a left and a right. that way if you get two mics you can record and play back in stereo! RCA cables are really common. they can be found at most any office/electronics store.

you can spend a few bucks more than the bargain bin ones and get some quality cables if you like. they would run about $5-6 each
RCA Cables

let us know how it goes!

i think that triangle u drew me is a little backrds. i tried it and i got no noise. so i went back looked it over and xynex mixer output -> 1st set of red/whites on gigrac. that worked kinda good. i got sound just it was fuzzy and crackly. so where should i go from there? what u think the problem is.

the diagram above is designed for both playback and recording.

well my concern from the beginning when you said you wanted to use both mixers was that the complication of things (that being so many volume levels to keep track of might lead to this). here is something i suggest we try. try just using the gigrac. don't use the xenyx for now and see if we can't master half the equation before taking on the whole thing. all you have to do is plug the output of the USB device in to input # 5 on the gigrac. where were you getting the humming from? were you trying to play something from the computer or record something from the mixer? also check and double check the volume levels and make sure that nothing is accidentally on mute. i do stupid stuff like that all the time and only know all too well how it could be something simple.

1) the hummming happens only when i use the main mix outpus from the xynex mixer. which i use XLR wires for.

2) when use the RCA wires from the usb device TO #5 slot of the gigrac, i get crackly, fuzzy music, still get the music played off my itunes just crakly and fuzzy.

checked all knobs, all turned to zero. only main valume knob and #5 volume knob turned up.

this is a tricky one.

outputs to what? the computer or to the gigrac?

do you have any other rca cables to try this with? the ones you have might be of poor quality or just worn out. also make sure that the volume knobs are adjusted properly. if the volume on your computer pumping out the music is quite loud and you try to turn the volume down on the mixer it might have adverse affects on it. i would suggest playing the music on your computer in a lower volume i would suggest about half.

start>>control panel>>sound and audio devices>>audio tab

select the USB audio device in the drop down box and then click volume. make sure that the line out volume is about in the middle. (if you don't see line out then select options>>properties then click the check box in the lower half next to line out. this will make it appear in the main window.

what you have to remember is you want to amplify it in the gigrac not in the computer. if you are already blasting it out from there the mixers are only going to be able to do so much with it.

1) lappy > xynex mixer > XLR > gigrac > 12's
------ this is what gets nothign but humming.

2) alright, with some tinkering, it seems to work the opposite of what you said. i turn it up loud on the lappy and it somes out clear to the gigrac. when its turned low on the lappy its like the gigrac has little or no signal and its struggling. turn it up loud, its got a signal and it works clearly.

ok, i think everyhtin gis working now.

now! since it works when i turn the lappy up to give the gigrac enough volume to amp out, this isnt hurting my lappy in any way is it? by me upgrading my soundcard to the one you linked before, would it help in anyway? maybe by not stressing out the lappy, if it is indeed working the lappy to hard? let me know!

naw having the volume up will not damage anything. although the card i showed you was very nice you do not need it because the USB device you have does the same thing. it sounds like you are good to go. how does the recording sound?

same as when i first do it i presume ( i havent tried it yet)

but all im doing it puttin the USB device outline RCA's to the gigrac, so ill still be using the xynex mixer to plug in and record. i think it should work.

BTW, i think this is the longest x-inferno stream ever!

since you are doing acoustic stuff i think that should work out alright. you should email a recording to thomas or i so we can post it here on the forums once you get everything working!

it might be however i think that one of our previous ones made it to somewhere around three or four pages. i think its goal was to be the longest thread ever and it did just that.

dang! i thought this waaas pretty long. but oh well!

oh yea, i also have a myspace music page up. its pretty bare now, no songs. no friends. no pix. so when i get that figured out and made lagit, i will send some songs over to this page as well. it might take a little time, unless i cover somethings that i think would be cool.

so yea, maybe try and find me on the ever so massive myspace world!
