Long Beach Marathon? August 13th, 2008, 1:05 pm
Hey y'all. I know you guys often ride your bikes during the Long Beach Marathon. Although I think 26.2 miles is out of my range I have been doing a lot of running lately and am prepared to tackle a half-marathon and would be interested in perhaps coming out to run the half-marathon course if you guys are biking.
?
Or maybe Steve can run with me!

Steve said you're about 4 years too late if you want him to run with you.
Also what days is Long Beach marathon?

Alright alright so it's a lie. I'm actually living in a tent in Thomas's orange grove and I'm just waiting to see how long before anyone notices. So far so good.

You guys are so delightfully funny. I just love how a conversation can start with one topic and get completely sidetracked into and equally amusing conversation. Yay everyone!

Re: Long Beach Marathon? September 19th, 2008, 8:56 am
I've been considering doing the biking portion BUT I recently found out that there is a category of people who walk the entire marathon and now I'm thinking about that. They get their own start time right after the bikers. I figured it out and to finish right on time you have to walk at 3.6 mph for 7 hours and 15 minutes. 3.6 is a good paced walk but not extremely so. I think it is definitly doable, but probably boring if done alone so I'm wondering if anyone else is interested.
The marathon costs $100 (which sucks) but I did the math on that too and I think it's worth it. Included in the $100 you get: Entry into Aquarium of the Pacific = $21 T-shirt = $15 Finishing medal dealie = $5 Goodie bag of junk = $5 A fun filled day of walking with me = I could say "priceless" but this is not a Mastercard comercial, this is reality, and I am currently charging $50
So... when you add it up your really only paying $4. Thats a pretty good deal.
P.S. I am going to test my theory that this won't be impossible to do this weekend. So if I realize I'm retarded I will come back and admit it.

Re: Long Beach Marathon? September 21st, 2008, 7:58 pm
I believe I aimed to high. Here are the results of my day: Good news: 1. I walked 16.4 miles (a half marathon and then some) 2. My average pace was 3mph (not too shabby) 3. I walked for 5 and a half hours straight 4. I completed a half marathon on a random day with no intensive training Bad news: 1. 16.4 miles is 10 miles short of a marathon 2. Another 10 miles would not have been fun 3. 3mph is significantly less than my 3.6 mph goal pace 4. I had no intensive training program Factors that contributed to my failure: 1. I am feeling sick so I wasn't at 100% 2. I was carrying a heavy backpack full of water 3. I did not prepare at all 4. I had to wear 1 dirty sock because I didn't feel like doing laundry the day before. (Although honestly I think this helped me because my dirty sock foot felt better at the end of the day) 5. I did not prepare at all Other news: Good: I saw several hot guys, a guy with a mullet and a really cool lookin dog. Bad: I only said hello to the guy with the mullet. Good: I looked at some jellyfish. Bad: They did not look at me (I don't think jellyfish even have eyes) Good: My legs were not sore at all the day after.
In conclusion I still kick ass but not as much ass as hoped. I wouldn't be able to complete a full marathon and I have no desire to do a half marathon again in the near future. So I'm still planning on doing the biking marathon and I invite you all to attempt whatever you'd like to attempt and to stay at my place for free if you'd like.

I completed my own test Nico. I ran the Philadelphia Distance Run yesterday, a half marathon. You can see all my stats by searching me out here: http://results.active.com/pages/searchf ... rsID=69701The Good: We finished in 2:01:08, amounting to a pace of 9:15 miles. The weather was great Free cytomax and powerbar gels I didn't really start to get sore until mile 10 The Bad: I hit my wall during my 12, which is sadly 1.1 miles before you would like to hit the wall in a half marathon We missed breaking 2 hours by 1 minute 8 seconds My ankle is a little sore this morning Conclusions: We should all attempt a half marathon in the future. Given that Jason has decided Blizzcon > Long Beach Marathon I think our new target should be the Disneyland Half Marathon next year where you go to run around Disneyland/Anaheim. Because (A) you guys all live in California and (B) everyone loves Disneyland. Although I tend to think in September it will be hot, but I'm sure it starts early. Disneyland Half Marathon Events will take place September 4-6 in 2009. Check it out http://www.disneylandhalfmarathon.com

Very impressive Stephen. I think your test was succesful. And I like the idea of trying for the Disneyland half marathon next year. I definitly need time to train if I'm gonna try to keep up with you. It'll be good to have a year to get ready, hopefully I don't get lazy.

I'm quite impressed with how this thread has come along since last I visited it. Nicole and Stephen both have some impressive tasks they've completed, I need to go run some more! Me and Corey did our 10 mile run (which had alot of uphills) the one day, it seemed like good training but with school starting I don't know how I'll do. Ian wants to do a mini Triathalon this Saturday around 8 AM if any of the Riverside people are interested.
He's guessing a 1 mile run (which is easy), 4-5 mile bike (the bike does all the work), and a 150 meter swim (which is like a few laps in his pool). I don't think it'll be that hard at all, but we'll see. The hardest part is going to be waking up I think.

I heard the First Annual Ian Wright Memorial Triathlon was a success. Congrats champions Ian, Steve, and Jaso!
