So my neighbors and adopted grandparents went to the farmer's market yesterday, only to come home to find a Lexus SUV in their living room. a 42-year-old epileptic had an episode WHILE he was driving, and passed out with his foot on the accelerator. after hitting two sides of the cement triangle divider, he hit the oleander bush-covered embankment, narrowly missing the firehydrant, just barely clipping the coconut tree in front of the condo airborne at least 3 feet up, missing both vital support beams, and crashed through the sliding glass doors. The tree gave it just enough spin to forth the front end of the car toward the main entrance and the tail end of the SUV fit perfectly in the living room.
The man was passed out on discovery by the guys working around the complex, and the maid, who'd JUST finished cleaning the living room, was situated in the kitchen as a car came barreling toward her, glass shards literally piercing the wall next to her and BARELY scraping her at all. After what some claim to be 15 minutes of standing in shock, she was able to escape through the back of the condo. The man was fine as well, although 3 days ago he'd had his license revoked for driving in the possession of open alcohol and possible intoxication. He was sober at the time of the incident. After a full afternoon, they finally managed to get the car out, and many valuable antiques from the world over were salvaged in excellent condition (even with the tail end of a 5500 lb SUV on one) while others were barely distinguishable from all the broken glass.
The guys who helped are so incredible and selfless, I wish they would all be recognized publicly. But anyway, here's some shots of the afternoon, today was a BLAST to clean up the plants, glass, and priceless ancient China-wear from an oil and dirt soaked carpet. Glass was literally strewn down the stretch of hallway into back bedrooms, thank God the maid survived!

Notice how he cleared that lip of the lanai (porch), we just noticed today that he clipped the major support beam over the top of the lanai, that's how airborne he got.

oh my...too bad that wasn't on video. would have been incredible to watch since no one got hurt. that driver will probably not be able to own a car for the rest of his life; no loss though.
